Calvin

Calvin was a Maltese stray who found his way into the home of Harriet Beecher Stowe, the author of Uncle Tom's Cabin. Calvin was a very intelligent cat who amongst other things, could open door handles. He would often sit on the author's shoulders as she worked on her manuscripts. Charles Dudley Warner, a literary friend, who looked after the cat on many occasions wrote of him: " He is a reasonable cat and understands pretty much everything except binominal theorem."
